Hockey Canada Creates New Dressing Room Policies

Revised Measure Aims to Improve Safety, Encourage Inclusivity

Minimum Attire Rule and Other New Guidelines Announced

Hockey Canada recently announced significant updates to its dressing room policies for the upcoming 2023-24 minor hockey season. With a focus on safety, equity, and inclusivity, these new guidelines aim to enhance the dressing room experience for young players across the country.

The most notable change is the implementation of a minimum attire rule. Under this new policy, players are required to wear a base layer beneath their hockey equipment while in the dressing room. This measure aims to create a more comfortable and respectful environment for all players, regardless of gender or body type.

In addition to the minimum attire rule, Hockey Canada has also introduced a number of other important guidelines for dressing rooms. These include:

  • Ensuring that all dressing rooms are adequately supervised by coaches or other responsible adults.
  • Providing clear expectations regarding appropriate behavior within dressing rooms.
  • Creating designated spaces for players to change outside of the main dressing area, if necessary.
  • Encouraging open and respectful communication between players, coaches, and parents about any concerns or issues related to dressing room culture.

These new policies have been welcomed by many in the hockey community, who believe they will create a more positive and supportive environment for young players. The NHL, PWHL, IIHF, and other hockey organizations have also expressed support for the new guidelines, recognizing the importance of fostering a culture of respect and inclusivity within the sport.
